Feature Draft Intensive

Sep 15 to Nov 3 — Sundays, 10:00am–1:00pm (PT)

Instructor: Craig Fernandez

Have a feature outline to take to draft? Maybe you’ve taken our Feature Development Lab class and want deadlines and feedback as you head into the draft?

Feature Draft Intensive is a structured 4 session class designed for screenwriters who have a completed outline and are ready to write their draft. It will help you get that unfinished project written and polished while reviewing Core Structure and other key elements as well as focus on tools.

It begins with a pre-class prep week in which writers hand in their outline and read a script chosen by the instructor. In Week One writers receive notes on their outlines from their peers and the instructor. In Weeks Two and Three, they receive notes on the first and second halves of their scripts. Though this is not a rewrite class, there will be revising and retooling of story and key elements.

You’ll be in excellent hands, guided by the incredibly talented Craig Fernandez. In his twenty-five-year career, Craig has worked in every conceivable genre, from political thrillers (“Days of Rage”/Disney) to teen rom-coms (“Q”/Developed with Kenny Ortega). He’s adapted comic books “Beasts of Burden”/RealFX), classic literature (“Frankenstein”/Sony), and newspaper articles (“Biker Boyz”/Dreamworks). In addition to writing lessons, Craig will be answering all your burning questions about the business so come prepared to learn and take it all in!

Classes Include: Deepening Emotional Moments / Amping up Stakes/Conflict / Character Relationship Progression / Charting your Character’s Transformational Arc / Illustrating Themes

Testimonial: “I have thoroughly enjoyed Craig’s class and I want to continue to take classes with him. Craig is incredibly knowledgeable about a wide variety of films, literature, performers and general creative culture. He shares his breadth of knowledge as inspiration and reference points to encourage us to move forward. He’s generous with his time and makes it clear he wants us to succeed and is willing to meet us where we’re at on every level. He’s brilliant and it’s a pleasure listening to his lectures.— Kelly Parker
