Jessica Combs

Jessica Combs once did a hypnosis session where she learned she died in a past life from choking on a piece of bread.

Jessica Combs

Her first memory is of being weighed on the baby scale and hearing the doctor say, “That’s a BIG baby.” Her mom always countered, “That’s absolutely not possible,” and if she’s right and that’s something Jess constructed from stories about how she was nearly 10 lbs at birth, her first real memory is of turning a Lego bucket upside down so she could stand on it to turn on the television and watch I Love Lucy at 6am while everyone else was asleep.

The first of two children of Cuban-American parents, Jess grew up in South Florida. After getting her MBA, she spent a few years in the publishing world (at a fertility magazine) before finding herself managing developers at a tech corporation. It was at that point in her life, while obsessively watching bloopers from The Office, that she realized what she really wanted to do: write comedy.

So Jess headed to the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York to cut her teeth before getting into the 2019 Disney | ABC Writing Program (thanks to an original pilot that was developed at Script Anatomy). She has since written on UNITED WE FALL (ABC), THE MIGHTY ONES (Hulu), and two upcoming kids animated shows for streaming networks. She’s also currently developing a series with Nickelodeon.

She’s repped by Culture Creative and you can find her on Instagram @jessicamcombs and Twitter @jessicacombs.

Testimonials

Jessica is a wonderful instructor.  She was absolutely delightful. I’ve taken many writing classes over the years – and this was a stellar experience. I liked it so much so that I signed up for her next class to do my draft. Her notes were not only helpful but well presented. Definitely professional level but also easy to understand. Everyone seemed to really understand what she was suggesting and why. I really like the overall presentation of the class and will be taking more classes for my writing journey because of this experience. I’ve taken from lots of different places but the skill level of the students and format of this class was great! I’ve taken numerous classes over the years from other places. They don’t even compare.

Jessica was fantastic. She was professional, knowledgeable, good at managing time, thoughtful, and thorough. Jessica gave detailed notes that I found helpful in rewriting. Overall, the experience was very helpful to the development of my idea.

Jessica did a good job explaining core concepts in lecture. Jessica knew the material and made a great effort to help us understand ourselves. Feedback was ample and helpful. Jessica did a great job of showing us directions we could go in as opposed to telling us what to do. She was invested in seeing us all carry out a vision of our shows that was authentic to us. Jessica is great and I would definitely take another class with her in the future.
