J. Holtham was most recently a Co-EP on the final two seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale. He also writes comic books for such publishers as IDW, Marvel and Oni Press.

Born in Brooklyn, raised in New Jersey, J.’s writing career started with a weird short story about werewolves. He’s been writing about monsters, in one way or another, ever since. He went to New Paltz College in upstate New York, planning to be the next Stephen King and came out writing plays, hoping to be the next Tony Kushner.
He spent the next 15 years writing and producing plays in New York City. His work was seen at the Ensemble Studio Theatre (where he is a lifetime member), the Actors Studio, Williamstown Theatre Festival and innumerable 99-seat theatres all over the tri-state area. He’s written nearly 20 full-length plays and received commissions and grants from Second Stage Theatre and Theatre Communications Group.
He left the lucrative world of non-profit theatre behind in 2012 and moved to Los Angeles to pursue TV and film writing. His feature script Killers Anonymous was a finalist for the PAGE Awards and his pilot The Line was a finalist for the Screencraft TV Writing Fellowship. He won a Humanitas New Voices Fellowship in 2016.
He first staffed that year on the Fox show Pitch. After that, he staffed on Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger, Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Supergirl. He was most recently a Co-EP on the final two seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale. He also writes comic books for such publishers as IDW, Marvel and Oni Press.
