Avin’s Indian parents were hoping he’d be a doctor or scientist, not the guy who wrote the sketch with Mike Tyson dressed as Madea.
But Avin grew up on a steady diet of “The Simpsons”, Saturday Night Live, ABC’s TGIF lineup, and NBC’s Must-See TV Thursday lineup. Raised in in Northern New Jersey, he went to college for biochemistry, but while he was there, losing his mind, he wrote/directed comedy sketch videos garnering over ten million views and featured in Comedy Central, Sports Illustrated, Huffington Post, and NY Times.
He devastated his parents when he dropped out of a PhD program to move to Los Angeles and become a writer/director at Funny or Die. He wrote sketches and commercials featuring an array of Hollywood stars and superstar athletes including Will Ferrell, Charlize Theron, Martin Short, Tom Brady, Kevin Durant, and Clayton Kershaw. His parents were no longer disappointed in his career choice after meeting Jerry Rice on the set of a commercial he wrote.
He has staffed on the Men at Work (TBS), Game Shakers (Nickelodeon), Henry Danger (Nickelodeon) and Kevin Can Wait (CBS). He currently has two features in development and is writing a sitcom with comedian Shazia Mirza for the UK.
When he’s not writing, Avin frequently has his heart broken by the New York Giants and Arsenal Football Club
He is repped by Gersh and Echo Lake Entertainment. He can be found on twitter @jimmysparkles
Avin is new to Script Anatomy, so testimonials will be coming soon!
